Spot Feature – National Winner

CHS media students Rudy Cavazos, 12th; Kieran Binkley, 12th, Juan Gamon, 11th; and Kenneth Andrews, 10th placed 3rd in this year’s Spot Feature contest at the 2019 Student Television Network National Competitions in Seattle, WA. They had 6 hours to complete a news broadcast feature story using the prompt: “In A Groove.”

Sarah Rodriguez, CHS Junior, placed first at the Student Television Network National Competition in Seattle, WA this past March. She competed in the Multi-Media Journalist individual contest where she produced a feature story for broadcast and online print story based on the topic, “Making it Happen.” Sarah had 6 hours to meet her deadline which included 3 hours to develop a topic, gather her video and conduct her interviews; and 3 hours to edit.

STN Crazy 8 Broadcast Show

Students traveled to Seattle, WA in March to compete at the Student Television Network National Competition for news and film. During the Crazy 8 Broadcast Competition the CHS news team had to produce an 8 minute show in 8 hours using the theme: “Native American Culture.”

2019 CHS Summer Media Camp

Who: any upcoming 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th grader
When: June 5 & 6 (8am – 12pm) & June 7 (1pm – 5pm)
Where: Centennial High School Media Classroom
Advisers: Amie Kraenzel & Marissa Prentice

Camp Fee: $100 per student or $80 each for siblings

Students will learn to film and edit video projects using cameras and computers. The CHS media students will teach and mentor the students who attend our camp, with the guidance and supervision of the adviser. Each camper will receive a jump drive at the end of the week with his or her saved video project.

Families are invited to attend the student showcase on Friday, June 7th @ 5pm to watch the video productions that have been created during camp.

CHS Media Wins State

CHS photojournalism, newspaper, broadcast journalism, and yearbook classes competed in the 2019 New Mexico Scholastic Press Association State competition on Saturday, January 26th at Centennial High School. With a combined effort from all media students, the Hawks won the blue trophy for the second year in a row. Centennial Student News along with Hawk Productions (film) will head to the Student Television Network Conference in March to complete at nationals. Congratulations to all the winners.
