Students from the CHS Film classes submitted 26 films to the 2019 Desert Light Film Festival. The team was very successful, placing first in 5 of the 6 categories as well as several 2nd place winners. The short film “Jeremy Marilyn,” written and directed by Kallie Coombs received the overall “Best in Festival” award and Kallie received a $1,000.00 scholarship to New Mexico State University to study film. CHS media students Rudy Cavazos, 12th; Kieran Binkley, 12th, Juan Gamon, 11th; and Kenneth Andrews, 10th placed 3rd in this year’s Spot Feature contest at the 2019 Student Television Network National Competitions in Seattle, WA. They had 6 hours to complete a news broadcast feature story using the prompt: “In A Groove.”
Sarah Rodriguez, CHS Junior, placed first at the Student Television Network National Competition in Seattle, WA this past March. She competed in the Multi-Media Journalist individual contest where she produced a feature story for broadcast and online print story based on the topic, “Making it Happen.” Sarah had 6 hours to meet her deadline which included 3 hours to develop a topic, gather her video and conduct her interviews; and 3 hours to edit.Continue reading “2019 STN National MMJ Champion.”
The CHS Hawk Productions film team produced an 8 minute or less short film in 8 hours based on a given title and a prop.

Students traveled to Seattle, WA in March to compete at the Student Television Network National Competition for news and film. During the Crazy 8 Broadcast Competition the CHS news team had to produce an 8 minute show in 8 hours using the theme: “Native American Culture.”
CHS photojournalism, newspaper, broadcast journalism, and yearbook classes competed in the 2019 New Mexico Scholastic Press Association State competition on Saturday, January 26th at Centennial High School. With a combined effort from all media students, the Hawks won the blue trophy for the second year in a row. Centennial Student News along with Hawk Productions (film) will head to the Student Television Network Conference in March to complete at nationals. Congratulations to all the winners.
